SESSION ABSTRACT
Research tells us that when people who stutter (PWS) form community and stutter together, life gets better. Stuttering support group attendance has been shown to positively influence self-esteem and self-acceptance, while reducing
self-stigma and helping PWS view fluency as less of a goal.
Unfortunately, participation in in-person and online stuttering support groups is scarce in comparison to the prevalence of stuttering in the general community.
In this session, everyday leaders in the stuttering self-help community will address this issue, in hopes of finding practical solutions to increase in-person and online stuttering community engagement.
